The aim of the project is to investigate the response of the Polish Roman Catholic Church – both clergy and lay Catholics – to the problems of environmental degradation and the climate crisis. On the one hand, it investigates the issues of awareness, discourses, and attitudes towards global environmental challenges, on the other hand, pro-ecological ideas and practices developing in Catholic circles in Poland. An important theme is the possibilities and barriers to “greening” the Catholic religion in practice. This topic is carried out by an interdisciplinary research team through the following packages:

  1. an analysis of the official teaching of the Catholic Church
  2. an analysis of the ecological discourse in the Catholic press
  3. an exploratory study of the Catholic environmental movement
  4. research on ecological awareness and attitudes among clergymen.

The research is conducted at the Center for Advanced Studies of Population and Religion (CASPAR) of the University of Economics in 2021.
