ALCITfem – Activism and Its Moral and Cultural Foundations: Alternative Citizenship and Women’s Roles in Kurdistan and the Diaspora (2020-2024)

The project is based on interdisciplinary collaborative research between the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (UJ), the Centre for Gender Research (STK) at the University of Oslo, CASPAR and the Fafo Institute for Labour and Social Research in Oslo.

Funded in scope of GRIEG programme of Polish National Science Centre (NCN) by EEA and Norway Grants.

ALCITfem will study Kurdish alternative citizenship in four work packages:

  1. The representation of women in Kurdish literature and cinema,
  2. Covert activism of Kurdish women,
  3. “Doing family”,
  4. Eco-feminism.

The project investigates both highly visible as well as more hidden practices, and, at the same time, examines how activism is rooted in cultural and moral traditions.

ALCITfem’s fieldwork covers important centres of activism in Kurdistan and in the diaspora. Additionally, three Postdocs, one PhD and one MA student will be employed in the research project through open competition.
