Agenda

Conference Description

Migration from Latin American countries to Poland is a relatively new phenomenon driven by globalisation. Poland’s growing attractiveness as a place to work and live, combined with deteriorating socio-economic conditions in many countries of the region—particularly Venezuela, Colombia and several Central American states—has contributed to an increased inflow of migrants seeking employment and stability. This process generates numerous challenges, as it gives rise to negative practices that exploit gaps in Polish legislation as well as activities occurring outside the legal framework (e.g. human trafficking, the creation of sweatshop-type operations). The importance of this issue is reflected in the provisions of Poland’s Migration Strategy for 2025–2030, adopted by the Government in 2024.

The aim of the conference is to present the current situation of Latin American migration from the perspectives of both Poland and Latin American countries, to discuss its socio-economic consequences, and to address the challenges associated with this migration flow.

An additional inspiration for the conference is the research conducted within the project “Migration Crisis in Latin America – Coping and Adaptation Strategies of Venezuelan Migrants and Their Families and the Risk of a Global Migration Crisis”, funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS grant scheme in 2023–2025.

Programme

  • Day 1: Latin American migration in light of findings from the NCN OPUS project “Migration Crisis in Latin America – Coping and Adaptation Strategies of Venezuelan Migrants and Their Families and the Risk of a Global Migration Crisis” and other academic studies.
  • Day 2: Latin American migration in the European and Polish context – conditions, challenges, socio-economic background.

The event will be held in a hybrid format. Leading national and international researchers have confirmed their participation (approximately 10–15 presentations).
